We hope that you all had a fantastic Easter break and welcome back to the Summer Term. We can't believe it is the Summer Term already! We are also pleased to welcome back Miss Rice who will be completing her School's Direct placement with us.

Our topic this term is ‘Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside’. To get our topic started we will take a virtual visit to Llandudno so be prepared to wear your beach clothes for a day at the seaside in school.

We will try to answer questions including:

Why do we love to be beside the seaside?

What were seaside holidays like when my granny was a little girl?

Where do you go to on holiday and why?

What attracts visitors to seaside resorts?

What do you notice about the coast and how is it different to your town?

What was Llandudno like in the past?

What style of clothes would your grandparents have worn when they were your age?

In English we will continue to develop our writing skills looking at stories in fantasy worlds. We will use the books ‘Where The Forest Meets The Sea’ by Jeannie Baker, ‘Dougal’s Deep Sea Diary’ by Simon Bartram and ‘The Seahorse’ by Eric Carle.

As mentioned in Parents’ Evening, there will be a Phonics Screening check in June. We are holding an information meeting and workshop on Tuesday 9th May at 5pm until 5.30pm to provide further information and ideas for how you can support your child at home.

In maths, we will particularly focus on measure, place value, the four operations, money, and 3D shape. We will be introducing lots of vocabulary which will be reinforced and where possible we will be making links to maths in our every day lives.

In science we will be exploring plant types and parts. We will carry out investigations so we can observe growth in the plants we have grown. In the second half of the term, we will be following the Christopher Winter scheme of work and will cover:

  • Differences between boys & girls
  • Male & female
  • Body parts

Reading – We will continue to change reading books every Wednesday. In addition to this, your child is welcome to change their books independently. Please ensure reading books and reading diaries are brought to school every day. Guided reading sessions will continue to take place each week and we will also use this time to check reading diaries. We are really pleased by the effort the children are putting into reading regularly at home. We will continue to give reading certificates and we are still aiming to meet our class challenge of every child reading at least four times a week to an adult so please continue to record in your child’s diary.

Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned completed by Wednesday. Phonics homework will involve children marking real and alien words with sound buttons and bars.

P.E is on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school and that all items are labelled. The children are now very speedy getting dressed for PE. We're very impressed!

If you have any questions or concerns, please do come and see us.
